The voices of the masses is being drowned out and falsely guided towards a loud, uninformed segment that claims to represent the majority.  These are those (like the current Republican party) that cannot govern through compromise and honest debate, clearly stating their position and conciding when they find themselves in the minority.  America was a democracy ruled by laws and governed through majority rule but that might be changing thanks to our minority party friends.

Most republicans are authoritarians, that is they have highly authoritarian personalities and authoritarian tendencies. Knowing that you have to realize that it is near impossible to debate those kinds of personalities as we are seeing in both the political and public squabble over healthcare.

This is by no means strictly exclusive to republicans, but watching conservative authoritarian pundits argue their positions you often see them unable to concede when confronted with facts that challenge or repute their positions and makes you realize that it is difficult if not impossible to truly debate with these authoritarians.

The more radical the party becomes the more you see this authoritarian phenomenon take hold.

Conservatives and especially the Repubs don't really want change and prove it by offering nothing, no alternative other than just "NO"!

The opposition wants the free market to fix healthcare and in particular the insurance industry. In other words deregulation and more deregulation. They will never learn the lessons from their massive deregulation policies like those from the Reagan administration, continuing through the Clinton and G.W. Bush admins. Those are the policies that helped, in large part bring us to this current brink of excessive greed, rampant lack of ethics (or perhaps a new ethics -God help us!) and another round of corrupt politics.

This combined with the true observation above about authoritarianis m will continue to give the people of America a continuing electrical shock - ever increasing in intensity and frequency. Unless we are forced to come to our senses or do so on our own we will continue to doom those that have the least and condemn ourselves to a society that genuflects on fear mongering and irrational leadership.

public option is not the answer. we need heath care reform and insurance companies agree on that. We need things to be streamlined... claims payment aznd how that occurs, electronic health info instead of paper(get drs to put info on computer instead of paper files), state mandates that are the same for each state so that claims payment is same, electronic system for health care is same, ID cards are same, this will reduce health care costs. Making providers accountable. Ins companies are not always the evil one.. think about it.. if they approved every single thing righ off the bat.. premiums would be tripple what they are now. For every of a premium a company/person pays out, .85 cents of that goes to pay claims/.medical bills. The other 15% is admin costs including keeping up with each states different mandates, salaries (yes even call center folks), rent, utilities, processing the claims/medical bills, nurses following admissions and makign sure hosptials and drs are not commiting fraud or keeping foks longer than need be so that the hosp and dr can make an extra buck and more.

There are many things Liz refers to that most would agree need to be done. Streamline administrative costs like claims filing, using a standardized electronic health recordssystem, allow insurance to be provided across state boundries. I don't know how she thinks this is going to happen, does anyone really believe the insurance industry is going to make changes that lowers cost for the consumer and reduces profit for themselves? You say the insurance companies agree with reform? What is stopping them from reforming then for all these years? To separate administrative costs into supposed claims/billings and those that might be required by state mandates is for what reason? Yes eliminating state mandates in place of federal ones might minimize some of the excess but then you have to ask, what about the cheerleaders for states rights? You say state mandates are one of the problems and yet this is the opposite of your too much federal government, give the states the decision to do what they want, no regulation, cut taxes platform. What is what that? Is this an exception to the rule? Are you complaining that nurses have to police everything? I would agree but who should that be? How about the government? Or better yet let the insurance industry police themselves, that would be good. Kind of like they do now in regulating themselves.

Yes, things need to be reformed but how, surely not by waving a magic wand which is the same as expecting industry to do it themselves!

I've been referring to health insurance (really most insurance) as 'legalized extortion' for many years. The crooks in the insurance industry are taking this extortion to greater heights these days. You pay in good faith and get little or nothing in return and nobody, meaning government or the legal system does a damn thing about it. They in some cases literally are getting away with murder!

One can only come to the conclusion that our congressional leaders are in the hip pocket of these money making giants. That is why people are so damn angry. Sure you hear from the idiots that have yet to make a major claim or befall a serious illness who don't want you to take away what they have! Once that average Joe (not the rich guy who can pay his way to good health) begets a serious illness or needs an expensive procedure may find that his "let me keep what I have" insurance will have tossed him out to the wolves!

More an more of the cost of healthcare from those with insurance is being moved over to those same consumers. Copays are going up and have you ever looked at the claim report you get from your insurer? Notice how much of the cost of medical care is applied to your deductible! Not very damn much if anything at all! Yep, legalized extortion, that's just what it is and the crooks are winning!

What happened to conservatives, especially the Repulican'ts? I think they have been taken over by people that truly need psychiatric help!

Lies upon lies is what they keep perpetrating. Someone on this forum said that the Repubs are not capable of governing, boy were they right!

NOW it is time to act! These unconscionable bastards in Congress have done enough to belie and insult those they are supposed to represent and all the American people!

Republican and Democrats alike must now face our united voice and the anger we feel in their dishonor and betrayal of our trust! We MUST mobilize, become active and serve up the kind of true grassroots movement like one that has not been seen in decades. No more of these bogus, faux corporate conceived and orchestrated shams! We must provide them with an awesome helping of a true peoples movement.

We will elicit the unions and tradesman organizations, clubs and usergroups that will cease to support and begin to campaign AGAINST the re-election of any of those purported representatives that no longer speak for those they were elected to represent. Not only their own selective constituents but to have the honor, integrity and courage to speak for the good of ALL Americans! We will elicit truth in churches, synagogues, temples and mosques. We will preach that truth and take back that which was stolen from us!

Call your union officials, speak at your trade organization meetings, write your elected officials, email your group and club members and urge them to do the same and ACT!

I for one am sick and tired of being screwed by those in power, the haves crushing the hope and exploiting the have-nots! The hypocrisy of the loudmouth faithful needs to be drowned out by the voices the faithful masses, who do believe in charity and helping thy neighbor. Who do believe it is a sin to bear false witness. Speak the truth! Speak truth to power and make this America your America! The peoples America!

What do people think is happening now? Insurance companies bully participating physicians into lower contract rates (well below what they normally charge, many times 60%-70% below) and pressure them to 'avoid' expensive procedures. Doctors choose to either play ball or not be a part of the network. Sometimes getting a doctor to give a written diagnoses is like pulling teeth because they don’t want to upset the insurance plans they participate in. Next insurance companies routinely deny services for reasons legitimate and many, many with trumped up, ridiculous reasons that are deceptive and dishonest. (if they are not prosecuted or they skirt the law no matter how unethical or immoral then they get away with it and they routinely get away with it as a practice)
More and more of the cost of individual healthcare are being passed to the insured as of the last several years. We won’t even mention pre-existing conditions and the like. And what about healthcare as a moral issue? The arguments about this and who argues those positions are astoundingly hypocritical to say the least. Lastly, insurance companies are motivated by profit and thusly provide fewer services in order to maximize that profit.

Look if you don’t want big government, lower taxes, limited or no social services, no regulation of industry then just say that! Don’t come up with these ridiculous ideas and half baked distortions of the truth to justify your position. Just say I believe this… and leave it at that. Then perhaps we can have honest, reasonable debate about this or any other issue.
